Overview

  • Seventh grade is a time of tremendous change and growth for students at Lincoln Middle School. It is a time when students routinely exit the building in the afternoon, fundamentally changed from student walking into the building that morning.

Students in seventh grade begin to hone their academic craft. They are exposed to new and varied materials for deep study. They are asked to think critically and work to understand what authors and artists and everyday people really mean by the things they say, the actions they take and the things they create. Seventh grade students look at materials, and then look again, more deeply, offering their own criticism, supported by examples from the book or movie or play or experiment.

They learn academic skills that aid in self-discovery. They learn how to find and evaluate sources of information for credibility and accuracy. When students are able to find information every unknown word or name becomes an opportunity for discovery and un-courted, new experience.
