• In accordance with state law (§16-21-4§16-21-5) all schools (public and private) in Rhode Island are required to perform 15 emergency drills that include fire, lockdown and evacuation drills.

    The principal or headmaster of each school is responsible for the successful implementation of this statute. The annual compliance report that confirms all drills were conducted must be reported to the Department of Education, with copies going to the municipal fire department, and one copy kept at the school.

    At the end of the year, at least 15 drills should be performed.

    Of this number, 4 must be obstructed drills with 2 completed during September and October.

    A total of 8 must be completed by the end of November.

    By the end of the year, the 15 drills must also include 2 evacuation drills and 2 lockdown drills.
