Lincoln School Department Lincoln School Department

Lincoln School Department's Student Services Office

Introduction

Maryann Struble - Director of Student Services

The Lincoln School Department is responsible for providing an appropriate educational program for all of the students who reside within its boundaries. As each student has strengths and weaknesses in both academic and social areas, it is important that a public educational program be flexible enough to allow for individual differences.

The Lincoln School Department recognizes these individual differences and strives to support students within the parameters of the regular classroom environment. When it is evident that an individual student needs additional support to be successful, educational alternatives will be explored.

In an effort to support this philosophy, the Lincoln School Department established the Office of Student Services on July 1, 1978.

The school psychologists, school social workers and guidance counselors are available to provide services to children within the district. When a child is referred for an evaluation by a member of the school community, the referral is addressed by the multidisciplinary team. The team, consisting of: school psychologist, school social worker, diagnostic prescriptive teacher, school principal, child's teacher and the parent discuss the needs of the child. If agreed, the team will conduct an evaluation, discuss the results and recommend a course of action.

Children from the Lincoln School Department who have been identified as students in need of special services will be educated in the least restrictive environment. Efforts will be made to remediate the students' weaknesses in academics or social areas so that he or she may return on a full-time basis to the regular classroom.

The Office of Student Services is required to develop and maintain services for students with special needs based on the mandate provided by 42 U.S.C. 1401, et seq (as amended) 20 U.S.C. 794 sec 504 and RIGL Title 16 Ch 24-26. Individual programming is carried out through consultation with professional staff, parents and students.

Please contact the student services office at 721-3317 or the principal of the school building your child attends.
