Student Achievement

Objective #1  Northern Lincoln Elementary School students will demonstrate academic success and growth as indicated on state, district and classroom assessments.

Strategy #1 All students will experience high quality standards based instruction and best practices driven by data collection and on going monitoring.

Strategy #2 All students will be presented with academically challenging curriculum that is derived through differentiated instructional practices.

Strategy #3 All students will be involved with instruction that has Clear Expectations, Academic Rigor, and Accountable Talk.

Activities that support the strategies/action plans

            Continue work with standards based instruction, implementation of GLE’s and Best Practices.

            Align standards, GLE’s, benchmarks and curriculum.

            Ensure the use of grade level common rubrics in Language Arts and Math to promote consistency.

            “Looking at student work” protocols to be used during common plan time for progressive monitoring.

            Provide continuing professional development in these areas.

STRATEGY: We will analyze all student work for the purpose of improving teaching and learning.

RESULT STATEMENT: Students will meet/exceed the yearly Annual Measured Objectives (AMO) as defined in the State Assessment Program.

Changes in student learning behavior What will students do to reach the identified results?  How will we know whether students are developing these behaviors?

Changing Instruction What will teachers do to ensure students change their learning behaviors and attain the result?

Monitoring progress with timelines and adjustmentsHow will we measure progress towards the changes in learning behavior and teaching that we want?  How will we keep the principal, parents and SIT informed and involved?

Collaboration and Support How will we use the information we get to improve our program?  When will we discuss the progress we are making?

Resources, School and District How will the district and school leadership ensure that the school reaches the results?

Evaluation of Success/reporting to Families and CommunityHow will you know if the students reach the intended results?  How will you inform the school community?

 

  1. Use higher level thinking skills (comparing and contrasting, predictions, synthesizing, creating, hypothesizing, etc.) to paraphrase and summarize (state assessments- 80%)

 

  1. Use a variety of graphic/visual organizing strategies/materials for making connections between texts, e.g. Inspirations, LINKS (state assessments- 83%)

 

  1. Self/peer evaluate writing using district curriculum rubrics for report writing, narrative accounts, narrative procedure, response to literature.

 

  1. Create meaningful organization fitting essay topics, audience and context by using graphic organizers, clear expectations, pre and post benchmark pieces per grade level.

 

  1. Use the assessments outlined in the district PLP’s (DRP, DRA, PALS, and DIBELS) for identifying students modifying and determining flexible group instruction.

 

  1.  Implement a Balanced Literacy approach to teaching reading and writing.

 

  1. Explore Readers’/Writers Workshop strategies.

 

  1. Implement effective reading strategies as outlined in the Reading State Frameworks, Balanced Literacy, and/or research on best practices.

 

  1. Engage students in Accountable Talk, Academic Rigor and High Expectations by utilizing the framework for the Principles of Learning.

 

  1. Utilizing grade level meetings to develop consistent rubrics and benchmarks.

 

  1. Monitor PLP’s on an on-going basis to analyze deficiencies.

 

  1. Continue use of Learning Walks (IFL) to examine growth by faculty in the areas of Accountable Talk, Academic Rigor and Clear Expectations.

 

  1. Analyze and report state assessment data.

 

  1. Exhibit student work with rubrics.

 

  1. Align classroom instruction with GLE’s district curriculum and standards.

 

  1. Teacher/student conferences

 

  1. Develop parent and student              contracts making the home a learning partnership.

 

  1. Implement an annual Parent Involvement Plan.

 

  1. Utilize and promote the use of the Family Literacy Center.

 

  1. Respond through a feedback letter to the staff information that has been received during a Learning Walk.

 

  1. Ensure Article 31 funding is aligned to SIP and District Strategic Plan.

 

  1. Provide follow-up through the Professional Development Plan on all inservicing done through Article 31.

 

  1. Implement Before/After School and Ramp-Up programs to targeted population.

 

  1. Utilize only Best Practices in the classrooms through high quality standards based instruction and differentiated instruction.

 

  1. Analyze and use state assessments and DRA, DRP, PALS, and DIBELS for decision making about teaching and learning.

 

  1. Use all information inserted into the PLP to drive instruction and professional development.

 

  1. Revise School Improvement Plans  and report out annually.
