Library Schedule for Grade 2

Students in second grade are allowed to borrow two books or a book and a magazine and they may keep it for one week. They may renew it once, if they need it for another week. If the students forget their books on library day they will not be allowed to select new books. Overdue notices will be mailed home once a month.
What's Happening in Class
Students in second grade learn:
a basic introduction to the computer card catalog (OPAC: on line public access catalogue) to look for books in the library;
introduction in navigating the OPAC visual catalogue and text catalogue;
the difference between Fiction and Nonfiction;
where books are located in the library;
call numbers for Fiction books;
author studies and author web sites;
the Caldecott Award and Caldecott award winning books;
illustration types collage, photographs, water colors, pencil drawings etc.);
elements of a basic book review, including how to support their opinions with examples from the book;
book care and library etiquette.
