Lincoln Central Highlights Science
The science curriculum at Lincoln Central and all of the Lincoln elementary schools is one of active participation, “hands on” inquiry activities and participatory problem solving. Students explore various topics, develop a hypothesis, record data and observations in their science journals and become familiar with the process that scientists go through in making scientific discoveries.
Resources including print media, science kits containing relevant materials and video streaming are used to support the ongoing science program.
Miss Salhany and Mrs. Metivier’s fourth grade students were posed with the following focus questions during the science investigation. How do magnets and iron objects work together and can the force of magnetism go through materials? Through hands-on, inquiry-based exploration they discovered that magnetism is induced in the piece of iron, and it becomes a temporary magnet.
