Lincoln Middle School Parent Organization Receives Award

Congratulations to our LMS PACT group for being selected as the winner of the 2005 New England League of Middle Schools Parent and Community Group Award!  What an honor!  The purpose of this award is to recognize parent and community groups who value, understand and support effective middle level education.

Robert Spear, Executive Director of NELMS writes in his letter, "It is obvious from the materials that we received that the group understands how young adolescents learn and that the group is a champion of and actively promotes middle level education.  The group has built community support for middle level education, and recognizes that middle level education is a distinct entity within the K-12 educational system."

Two representatives of the LMS PACT will be invited to be guests of NELMS at the 24th Annual Conference Recognitions Reception held this year on March 20, 2005 at the RI Convention Center.

Bruce J. Macksoud, Principal of LMS said, "I am so proud of our PACT organization for their hard work, and all of the things they have done for our school this year!"  "They are so involved in all we do behind the scenes as well, such as being on our school improvement team and sub-committees that are working tirelessly trying to flesh out ideas of what our new middle school and programs should look like." "I can't think of any other group more deserving of this prestigious award!"

Message from the Principal

Dear Parent/Guardians,

Although I have only been here for a short time, it is very evident to me that Lincoln Middle School is a very special place where students and teachers alike, put education first.

I have found myself walking the halls in amazement, as I witness first-hand the commitment to excellence in this school.  Pride, character, and integrity are a few of the descriptors which I feel define this school.  As we move forward with momentum towards our goal of becoming the “best middle school” in the state, let me assure you that many hard decisions are yet to be made.

A parent survey will be forthcoming, and it is imperative that you spend the time necessary in filling it out, so that we may serve you and your children better.  The BLT (Blueprint for Learning and Teaching) has been working hard on our behalf, and our School Improvement Team has grown to well over twenty members involving administrators, teachers, parents and student.  We have once again affiliated with the New England League of Middle Schools (NELMS) and Rhode Island Middle Level Educators (RIMLE), in order to move forward in meeting our goals with resolve.

Thank you for allowing me to be a member of the Lincoln Middle School community and family.  If my experiences in this short time are any indication of things to come, then there’s no doubt in my mind that we will be the school others wish to emulate.

Congratulations to Ms. Susan Johnson who has recently met the standard for National Board Teacher Certification, set by the Board of Directors of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).  Ms. Johnson is now certified early adolescence through young adulthood/career and technical education.  We at LMS are very proud of her accomplishments in this very difficult endeavor.
