A Message From the Principal
As students enter the middle school, there is always a certain degree
of anxiety that is experienced. They are no longer in elementary
school, and they are not yet in high school. They are "in the
middle." In 1989, the Carnegie Foundation had the foresight to
realize that students from the age of eleven to fourteen required a
unique educational program. The traditional junior high school model
did not meet the individual needs of young adolescents in this age
group. These young people have their own vision of the world around
them that does not reflect the vision of an elementary or a high school
student. It is our belief that a middle level educational program, in
which students are placed on academic teams, is better suited to meet
the needs of this student population. Middle level students benefit
most from programs which help them explore their talents and interests,
as well as develop new skills and aptitudes in a non-competitive
experience. While some competition may be healthy as a motivational
force, the point of diminishing returns is quickly met when frustration
and limitation are the results.
Learning is not isolated from everyday life. Our program provides
opportunities for students to apply learning to real-life situations.
Young adolescents inherently have a need to explore, to discover self,
and to discover and develop talents and interests. We believe that our
program provides opportunities for this to happen.
We invite members of the Lincoln
community to visit our school and look at our program. There is an open
invitation to community members to become part of our School
Improvement Team. The school improvement process is ongoing. The
ultimate goal of the School Improvement Team is to improve student
achievement and it is our belief that this goal is a community
responsibility.

A
Message From the Assistant Principal
My
name is Chris Cobain and I am proud to be the newest member of the
administrative team here at Lincoln Middle School.
I
received my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Bryant University, Class of
‘92. After spending six years in the investment industry I returned
to school and earned my Master's Degree in Teaching/Business from
Johnson and Wales in 1998. Upon completion a MAT with a concentration
in Business, I have spent the last nine years at Exeter-West Greenwich
High School as teacher of business (6 years) and Vice Principal (3
years) after receiving a certificate in administration from the
Principal’s Residency Network.
I
have been a resident of Lincoln since 1995. I am married to Darlene and
we have two children together, a daughter Taylor and a son Travis. My
hobbies are spending time with my family, playing golf and coaching
basketball at Exeter-West Greenwich High School.
Lincoln Middle School offers many academic, athletic, and co-curricular
activities. I urge students to avail themselves of the many
opportunities our school offers. We welcome the support and input of
parents as we work together to provide each student with the best
possible education. We must work hard to understand the intellectual
and social characteristics of the early adolescents so that we can
provide the foundation for a quality learning experience at Lincoln
Middle School. Along with the staff of Lincoln Middle School, I pledge
to work diligently to help our children as they make decisions and
choices that will affect their personal and academic future. We have a
strong academic core in this community and we will continue to strive to
reach our goal of becoming a “Spot Light School,” one that is constantly
working toward increasing student performances. I will work to establish
strong relationships with teachers, students and parents which will
result in an environment that will allow students to prosper. I look
forward to helping Lincoln Public schools continue to improve its’
teaching and learning so that all students can achieve academic and
social success.
