Thursday, December 4th Faculty v. 8th Grade Basketball teams. The third annual Holiday HoopFest was a huge success last night as the teacher’s held on for a hard fought 67-64 win over the 8th grade squad. The game went back and forth all night, as the teachers would build a double digit lead but the student team constantly battled to stay within one shot. Thanks to everyone who made this special night so successful. Special thanks to the players, teachers, and especially the fans who helped raise money that will help many children have a happy Christmas Holiday. Over $1500.00 was raised at the game and on Monday afternoon, the girls’ basketball team will be heading out to shop for Christmas gifts and we would like to express our gratitude for all those who participated in any way! |

Thanks to two 8th grade girls, recycling has become a reality at the middle school. Karina M. and Marissa M. from Team 4 found out that papers and cardboard items were just being tossed with the trash. This upset Karina and Marissa. They were concerned about the environment and the impact that the lack of recycling would have on future generations. They were determined to do something about this problem. They decided to get students involved in the effort to recycle. Due to their efforts, students from all grades are now involved in this effort. Twice a week, the students collect the recycling bins from every room in the building and place the papers/cardboards into the large receptacles found on each floor. Every Tuesday, the bins are brought to the loading dock in the rear of the school where Town of Lincoln trucks take contents to the RI Resource Recovery site. This program has been extremely successful. Plans are now in the works to begin recycling bottles and juice containers. Great job girls and to all the students who help in this very worthy undertaking.

Each year Team 5, in the spirit of community service, makes 30-40 apple pies. These pies are donated, to be included in the Town of Lincoln holiday food basket for our less fortunate neighbors. On December 22nd, each room created these delicious treats from scratch, from peeling the apples to wrapping the pies. While preparing the pies, we reinforce concepts such as food safety and cleanliness. This year's class was able to complete 50 apple pies, wrap and deliver them to Dave Sayles from the Lincoln Food Pantry in less than 3 hours. This year we had the expert advise and help from a couple of brave parents: Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Rahab....thanks for all your help.
