Old Sturbridge Village Visits Lonsdale
School
Members of Old Sturbridge Village recently visited
4TH grade students in Cheryl LaRiviere’s and Barbara Holt’s
class at Lonsdale Elementary School. Two programs were presented
to the students: The
District School, where the 4th graders actually learned what
it was like to be in the 1800’s. They were taught how
to “mind
their manners” and address the teacher when they arrived,
recite their Spelling words in unison, learn their numbers, and
write a
letter with a quill pen.
The second presentation was entitled, “Traveling
West”.
Many artifacts and stories about travelers making the Westward
journey were shared. This presentation was a great culmination
activity for
Ms. LaRiviere’s students since they have just completed
a Regions study of the Grasslands and the Westward Movement,
including
all
the obstacles the early travelers encountered.
This enrichment
program was funded by the LPT parent’s
organization and coordinated by Mrs. Kim Jacobson.
