January 2008 News

Internet Resources Now Available

In December, students in Grades 4 & 5 participated in a preliminary competition of the National Geographic Society Geography Bee.  We held a competition in each classroom and one student from each class was chosen as a finalist for the school-wide Geography Bee. Five other students with the highest scores in the school were selected to complete the required ten finalists.  Congratulations to all the students who participated and especially to these ten finalists: Sara Dattoli, Isabella Mesa, Kateryne Nelson-Guerrero, Cody Foster, Sarah Kennedy, Zachary Connor, Elizabeth Dennen, Michael Brown, Cory Mann and Adam Luther.

The school wide competition will take place on January 11th  at 9:30 am.  More information will be sent to the families of the finalists.

Reading is Fundamental

Our first RIF distribution for this year was held on Tuesday, December 11th and 175 students received a new paperback book of their choice that they can keep.  Two more RIF distributions will be held this year.

We thank the following parent volunteers for their help setting up the books and assisting the students to make book selections: Mr. Luther, Mrs. Bazel, Mrs. Cooney, Mrs. Shores, and Mrs. Rose.  I also wish to thank Mrs. Alessi for her help sorting the books and organizing them for the distribution.
