Extra-Curricular Activities

Lincoln High is pleased to offer many different activites for the student body. These clubs are open to all members of the student body.

Student Clubs’ Highlights

art club logoThe Art Club’s purpose is to give students the opportunity to express themselves in a non-academic setting. The activities/projects/events developed by the Art Club are completely student directed. Mrs. Susan Kolenda is the Advisor.

microphoneThe goal of the Audio-Engineering and Recording Club is to provide students hands-on experience in the audio-engineering field as well as allowing student musicians the opportunity to exhibit and refine their craft. Mr. Roy Boudreau is the Advisor.

Best Buddies logoBest Buddies pairs special needs students with a “student buddy” to promote socialization and acceptance for all students involved. They hold events and fundraisers every other month. Advisors are Mrs. Barbara Svitil and Mrs. Sue Labossiere.

Chamber Singers's logoThe Chamber Singers’ Club is a select group of 15-20 students. It is an audition-only group which meets after school to work on more challenging music. Mr. Neil Letendre is the Advisor.

flowerIn the Courtyard Club, students have the opportunity to earn community service hours by participating in planting projects and fundraisers. The after-school activity focuses on maintaining a garden outside the new cafeteria. The Advisor is Mrs. Carol Silva.

dancerThe Dance Club is composed of 35 talented young ladies. This team specializes in jazz, hip-hop and lyrical dance. They will perform at basketball games and hold a recital at the end of the year. Miss Alicia DiMezza is the Advisor.

drama masksThe Drama Club students will produce two major performances this year. Students will hold fundraising events. More importantly, students will become proficient in the world of theater. Mr. Tom Reeve is the Advisor.

FBLA logoThere are approximately 120 members of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). Interested students must be enrolled in a semester business course each year of membership. Events include a yearly Fashion Show, March of Dimes fundraiser and State Competition. Students involved also run The Lion’s Lounge. The Advisors are Ms. Maryann Mitchell and Mrs. Cheryl Murray.

film reelThe Film/Video Club is a club that meets to work on creating and editing different types of films and video projects such as public service announcements, interviews, and short movie segments. The club takes fieldtrips to Cox Communications where they learn to use their production and editing equipment. The Advisor is Mr. Paul Ruhle.

Eiffel TowerThe goal of the French Club is to offer students the opportunity to practice their French speaking skills and experience French culture through music, films, games, food and discussions in an informal setting. We celebrate similarities and differences between French and American cultures. Students run the club and play a major role in planning activities of interest. Ms. Pascale Acocella is the Advisor.

globeThe Language and Culture Club is advised by one of our Foreign Language teachers and provides an in-depth look into the cultures and languages of other countries. Ms. Yolanda Nazario is the Advisor.

cartoon police officerLSAC (Lincoln Students Against Crime) is a youth-led club. Its purpose is to create a safe and drug-free environment for living and learning in the school as well as in the community. The Advisors are Officer Dave Waycott and Mrs. Pamela Shayer.

The Math Team gives students the opportunity to compete against other northern RI schools in 4 meets throughout the year and may qualify for state playoffs in April. Mrs. Yvette Mongeon is the Advisor.

"I'm just a bill" cartoonThe Lincoln Chapter of Model Legislature meets throughout the 2nd and 3rd quarters. All students are welcome! Students have the opportunity to write bills for the State’s Mock Legislature in early April, serve as lobbyists or pages. The Advisor is Mr. Robert Capron.

NHS ShieldThe National Honor Society is an organization which recognizes outstanding students who have distinguished themselves academically. The NHS inducts junior and new senior members in the spring. Assessment of eligibility is done at the end of sophomore year. The criteria for academic eligibility is a weighted average of 3.0 or an unweighted average of 3.7. The Advisor is Mrs. Christine Bell.

posing lion profileThe student Newspaper The Lion’s Roar is written, edited and published by the students of Lincoln High School. While members of the newspaper’s editorial staff are students of Journalism (an English Department elective,) not all contributing writers or “members” need be. Currently, there are more than 60 students enrolled in Journalism. News, student life, editorials and opinions, entertainment (including reviews) and sports are the paper’s student–designated departments. The Journalism class focuses on all types of writing, using school wide ELA rubrics. Students also learn to use Publisher’s software, photography in newspapers, as well as original artwork and editorial cartoons.Other types of journalism, including broadcasting, are addressed in the class. Further, students sell advertising space to local businesses and raise money to support the program with the purchase of much needed equipment. This year, the staff of The Lion’s Roar hopes to establish a journalism competition for seniors through the English Department, offering 1st, 2nd and 3rd place scholarship prizes to those hoping to pursue careers in journalism . Those awards would be included in the year-end celebration of senior achievement. The Newspaper Advisor is Mrs. Doreen Picozzi.

trophyThe Renaissance Club is an organization involved in giving back to the community through service projects. Students are involved in helping at the Literacy Center, Senior Center and several benefit drives including a Pet Supply drive for the Town Animal Shelter. It is an excellent way of giving back to the community and satisfying your community service component. The advisor is Principal Kevin J. McNamara.

Science Olympiad logoScience Olympiad - Students interested in building events and academic competitions will enjoy participating in Science Olympiad. The team spends the year preparing for the state competition in April. The Advisor is Mrs. Suzana Borba.

skierThe Ski & Snowboard Club's primary objectives are to provide a forum for ski and snowboarders who attend LHS, and plan a few non–school sanctioned events . More importantly, the group represents a wide range of students at LHS. Currently the group boasts 40 plus students. Teachers have also become involved, further strengthening the sense of school spirit and moral. The Advisor is Mr. Frank Yip.

peace signSTEPP (Support Tolerance Everyone Peace Pride) currently has 20 members. The club meets all year and provides a forum for students to have open discussionsabout gay and lesbian issues, as well as event planning, for example, The Day of Silence in April. The Advisor is Ms. Ashley Ellsworth.

gavelThe Lincoln High School Student Council is responsible for creating a better school environment by promoting leadership within the student body, reflecting the opinions of the student body, and enhancing the quality of the activities in which the student body participates. The Student Council coordinates recreational, as well as social activities, and consists of 8 members. The Student Council Advisor is Mr. Neil Letendre.

stage lightsAn annual tradition at LHS, the Variety Show brings over 100 students together to produce aperformance showcasing the varied talents of the students at Lincoln High School. Auditions are held in November and December and the performance is held in March. Advisors are Mr. Jayson Schofield, Mr. Roy Boudreau and Mrs. Melissa Smith.

Writing Center logoThe Writing and Math Center is a great opportunity for students to help their fellow peers excel academically. They meet every Tuesday and Thursday after school in room C-33.

booksThe Yearbook Club creates the Yearbook, takes pictures and creates layouts, all on computer desktop publishing. There are opportunities for all students in grades 9 thru 12. The Yearbook Advisor is Mrs. Kristen DeMelo .
