Final Exams 2009

Final Exams take place at Lincoln High School at the end of the 4th Quarter.  These exams are designed to allow students to show their cumulative learning in their classes during the school year.

Exams are 90 minutes in length for each class in the students' schedules.  Most exams include rigorous multiple choice questions as well short- or long-answer writing.  Other exams may include practical components, such as lab experiments or some other hands-on task.  Exams are created by the classroom teachers; their content and difficulty are overseen by the academic department chairs.

Exam Weighting

Exams grades will be reported on the 4th Quarter report card.  This report card will include, for each class:

  • the grades for each of the four quarters
  • the Mid-Year Exam and Final Exam grades
  • the cumulative final grade

The cumulative final grade is calculated as follows:

  • 1st Quarter: 20%
  • 2nd Quarter: 20%
  • Mid-Year Exam: 10%
  • 3rd Quarter: 20%
  • 4th Quarter: 20%
  • Final Exam: 10%

Because the Final Exam counts as 10% of a student's semester grade, it is very important that he/she take the exams seriously, and prepare to do his/her best.  Students should begin studying for their exams well in advance.  Many teachers review the semester material in class, but students are expected to study their notes, books, and past assignments at home in order to prepare.

All underclassmen (grades 9-11) will still attend full school days during Senior Final Exams.
