Unit:Getting to Know You
After listening to a poem and hearing the musical version of
Fifteen Animals by Sondra Boynton, students filled
out worksheets describing their interests and
shared them with the class. Students voted on
which story they would like to hear,
Chrisanthmum or Josephina. They created
name plates and looked up
the meaning of their names in various
sources including encyclopedias, baby
name books, and the internet.
Unit:Caldecott Award Winners
After listening to a read aloud of a Caldecott Award winner
students discussed the story, the artwork, and how
it related to their interests and events in their lives.
When time allowed students drew their own artwork
representing an event in the story.
